Vote Robert Izzo, Don Schutz, & Linda O'Brien
The current board approved K–5 book collections (with a 3-2 vote) filled with heavy activism and political ideology - material that many deem inappropriate for young children and that distracts from foundational learning. These decisions were made without meaningful community input, and they’ve eroded trust.
The book collection is one example that caused widespread distrust in our district and created a negative perception of our schools. Families responded: private school enrollment has increased, homeschooling has nearly doubled, and district enrollment continues to decline.
We know some decisions were made that did not align with our community’s values, and we’re here to change that. Team ISO will restore trust, rebuild communication, and create a positive perception of Mentor Schools - because our great staff, educators, and students deserve leadership that reflects their excellence.
We will ensure our decisions are in alignment with the values of our community, not outside influences. We’ll make choices that reflect Mentor’s priorities - because we’re here to represent you.
70% of our school budget comes directly from local taxpayers - and 80% of those taxpayers don’t currently have children in our schools. That means we have a responsibility to protect their investment and ensure every dollar is spent wisely.
Team ISO is committed to cutting bloated contracts and excessive administrative salaries - not services that directly impact students. We will protect classroom resources, academic support, and student programs while eliminating wasteful spending elsewhere.
We will only approach taxpayers with a levy when it is absolutely necessary, and only after we’ve exhausted every opportunity to reduce expenditures. The last permanent improvement levy failed, and that sent a clear message: the community expects accountability. Team ISO hears that message loud and clear.
We will respect the people’s voice by:
Fiscal responsibility isn’t just a campaign promise - it’s a moral obligation to the people who fund our schools.
Mentor students deserve safe, focused learning environments. But the current board voted 3–2 to uphold President Biden’s Title IX proposal, which allowed boys to access girls’ bathrooms, locker rooms, and sports teams. It wasn’t until a 2025 law forced compliance that the board finally implemented a policy banning the practice.
That’s reactive leadership - waiting until the law demands change. Team ISO brings proactive leadership that puts student safety first, not last.
The board also embraced restorative practices that reduce disciplinary consequences based on a student’s background - meaning two students can receive vastly different punishments for the same behavior. With the exception of legal requirements for students on IEPs, Team ISO believes in uniform discipline policies that treat all students equally. We’ll enforce clear expectations, apply consistent consequences, and then provide the support students need to grow.
We must also support our teachers by ensuring administrators consistently enforce discipline policies. Teachers can’t teach effectively if disruptive behavior goes unchecked. When student behavior is addressed fairly and firmly, teachers are empowered - and classrooms thrive.
Bullying has no place in our schools. Team ISO will take a zero-tolerance approach to bullying and restore a culture of respect, safety, and responsibility.
We must prepare students today for the future tomorrow. When they leave our doors, they’ll face real-world consequences. Let’s teach responsibility, respect, and resilience - starting now.
